Debra Legg

Hillbilly by birth, Californian by choice, I’m a freelance writer, editor and Web content specialist by day and a mom by day and night. A graduate of West Virginia University, my work as a reporter and columnist has been honored in West Virginia, Kentucky and North Carolina.  9to5to9 also is a nationally syndicated column through McClatchy Tribune Media Services. You can reach me via email, though to be perfectly honest, Twitter and Facebook get cleared far more quickly than my inbox these days.

Between Big Guy and me, we have 27 food allergies, hence the Kids and Allergies portion of the blog. We share only one: Egg. He’s anaphylactic to peanut and egg; I’m anaphylactic to pork and seafood. His weirdest allergy is garlic. My weirdest is lettuce.

Big Guy also has asthma and bouts with eczema. Little Guy and Dad are allergy-free.

The guys

Dad

A metal head who plays the stereo too damn loud, he’s lived in California most of his adult life. He’s also a soldier and soccer fanatic who gets up in the wee hours to follow World Cup regardless of the time zone. Additional duties include Pumpkin Carver in Chief and training the guys to be the Los Angeles Laker fans. He’s currently deployed to Afghanistan.

Big Guy

Big Guy
A junior wannabe metal head, Big Guy likes soccer, baseball, NASCAR, Batman and irritating his brother. His favorite driver is Ryan Newman, even when Newman isn’t in the Army car. Big Guy’s dislikes include ponies, unicorns and virtually anything Mom serves for dinner.

Little Guy

Little Guy

Boots
A big fan of the big mess, Boots likes Thomas the Tank Engine, Lighting McQueen and irritating his brother when he thinks he won’t get caught. He hates going to bed at night and being without his El.

Policies and disclosures

Unless otherwise noted, all products reviewed or mentioned in blog posts were purchased at full retail price — or at the best bargain I could find — for use in this household.

I will accept products submitted for review, but the review will note that the manufacturer provided the product. Submitting a product does not guarantee a positive review, but a fair evaluation based on my opinion. And the guys’ opinions, too, if applicable.

If you’re interested in submitting a product, contact me via email. Food products must be free of egg, garlic, pork, seafood, tree nuts other than almond, peanuts, Red Dye 40 and Yellow Dye 5. They also must be manufactured on egg-, peanut- and tree nut-free equipment. I know: Picky, picky, picky. We’re dealing with some major food allergies here, though.

I do not write paid or sponsored reviews. I do accept advertising, but advertising on the site does not guarantee favorable treatment in posts.
