The best Christmas present ever

So you know all that blah, blah, blah about the best gifts being free?

It's true. And the proof is in what landed at our house this afternoon fresh from the East Coast - as fresh as priority mail will deliver that is, and with the temperatures of late that means it's pretty well preserved.

It arrived on a day when I'd been in the midst of a massirve mope since morning. It's more gorgeous than a dozen roses, especially since I've been trying in vain for a week to explain "holly" to the guys. They had no clue. But they do now!

The beauty of it is not only in the reminders of Christmas when I was a kid - Mawmaw had a huge holly tree in her yard that I loved once I'd learned not to run into it. It's also in the way it looks on the dining room table, a cheery splash of red and green in a land covered in brown.
