A bear has a birthday

Apparently I was wrong a few weeks ago when I ranted that birthdays are always known events.
Seems that with Big Guy’s Bear, they can pop up at any time. We’re on our third in the past year, so either loveys age in dog years or Big Guy wants cake and I’m being scammed. Or maybe Bear, still wounded from the unfriendly reception at kindergarten, just needed a little pick-me-up.
So I let the late notice slide – Big Guy didn’t tell me about the coming event until Tuesday – and pick him up we did, with cake, St. Patrick’s Day partyware, regifted presents wrapped in Christmas paper and songs. “He likes ‘Happy Birthday’ with the cha-cha-chas,’ ” Big Guy told us.
Bear enjoyed it so much that El has told Boots he wants his birthday to be next week. At least I have warning on this one.
