Good fun, but not necessarily clean
A funny thing happened along the way to making the bathtub crayons Tara posted at It Feels Like Home.
We got waylaid by a commenter’s “recipe” for easy bath paint. Since easy is good and we haven’t gotten around to the crayons yet, we tried the bath paint last night.
It’s certainly easy – mix food coloring with shaving cream. It’s certainly messy – yes, Tara, the guys are stained today. But it’s a whole lot of fun that kept the guys amused for at least a half hour.
I think ours was a little messier than necessary (though I’m sure the guys would argue that there’s no such thing as unnecessary mess) because concentrated gel colors, the kind that cake decorators use, were the only thing I had on hand. I bet regular liquid colors wouldn’t create a crimson tide in the tube.
The good news: It cleans up as easily as it mixes, though if you have the slightest hint of a bathtub ring, it will be tinted pretty colors. Not that we have bathtub rings around here …
Next time, though, I think I’ll get a gentler shaving cream – we used whatever Dad had on hand last night. Big Guy’s rump is a bit red this morning, though it’s hard to say whether that’s from the cream or the coloring. Maybe a bit of both.

WOW! First, what a great tub! Second, those boys look like they’re having the time of their lives! What’s a little staining when you’re having that much fun?
The tube is indeed great, and I’m thrilled that it’s big enough to swim two. I also enjoy it when I can run the guys out. And after I clean out their collection of bubble-bath bottles. The inventory stands at 12 now that just can’t be thrown away.
They did indeed have a blast with this, and you and I are in 100 percent agreement: The stain pain is worth the fun gain.
HEY THOSE TWO HAVE NO FLOATIES ON!!!!!! he he he he….
We love love love the shaving cream in the tubby!!!!! When I can get away with actually FILLING her bubble bath without her in it I like to drop food coloring all over the bubbles… we call it

I love bein’ weird!!!
In that tub, I just about feel like we need floaties. I wouldn’t let them use it until Boots was dang close to 2, in case Big Guy decided “rub-a-dub-dub, drown brother in the tub.”
Love the food coloring bubble bath trick, too. Filing that one away!
And I’m with you on being weird. But you know that!
